This year the Feast of Tabernacles in Indonesia will be held in the city of Batu, East Java. Batu, a former Dutch resort city, is located about a one-hour drive from Malang and is in the cool mountain region where the temperatures range from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. Humidity is relatively low.
The accommodation in Batu ranges from older Dutch-colonial hotels to modern Western-style hotels and apartments as well as villas, which are multi-bedroom self-contained guest houses. Both native and western style food is available in Batu, although not all would be to the average Westerner’s taste. The local supermarkets and markets carry a wide variety of produce. There are many tourist attractions within easy reach of Batu including botanical gardens, zoos, museums and water-fun parks.
Services will be held at “Villa Bagus” where most of the local brethren will also stay. Any visitors may stay in local accommodation with transport provided on an “as-required” basis. The primary language used both at the Feast and outside is Bahasa Indonesia but English-speaking visitors will hear the sermons in English via headphones. Some of the brethren do speak relatively good English and will assist visitors if needed. We do however suggest that basic Indonesian would be an advantage.
