This year we are again blessed to have the same tropical beach-front Feast site as we enjoyed last year. It proved to be one of the best sites that God has opened up to us. It is an ideal site for overseas visitors where they can enjoy a peaceful unhurried setting and concentrate on the real meaning of God’s soon-coming Kingdom away from the hassles of the world.
The Feast in Sri Lanka is at the Hibiscus Beach Hotel (www.hibiscusbeachhotel.com) located on the southwest coast at Kalutara, a village south of the capital city of Colombo. The hotel is in a quiet garden setting, surrounded by coconut palms and greenery, which extends to the golden beach sands. A restaurant, two freshwater swimming pools, and a gymnasium are some of the many amenities. Your room costs include a hearty breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
One of the highlights of the Feast is the fine fellowship that you can enjoy with all the brethren, beginning with an early morning leisurely walk along the beach sands and finishing off with the evening activities with brethren of like mind. During the Feast, a number of activities are being planned, including a trip to the turtle hatchery, boat trip through the overarching mangrove tunnels where crocodiles and other wild life can be seen, and possibly a surfing afternoon. Further around the coast are tropical nature reserves where elephants and other wild animals and birds can be observed in their natural habitat. A side-trip after the Feast can be planned to visit the busy fishing village of Negombo, feed the elephants and watch dozens of them bath in the river at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. You can also see the famous UNESCO World heritage Sigiriya Lion Rock, stay at a tea plantation or take a safari trip through the extensive Yala wildlife national park (www.srilankaecotourism.com).
International visitors arriving at the Colombo International Airport can arrange to stay the first night at one of the major hotels, such as the delightful Mt. Lavinia Hotel (www.mountlaviniahotel.com) located on the coast or the Cinnamon Grand (www.cinnamonhotels.com) located in the city centre. Good lower-cost hotels are also available or you can go straight to the Feast site. You can pre-arrange for your hotel to have a car waiting for you when you arrive at the airport. Using public transport when you first arrive is not recommended.
Travel to the Feast Site
Your hotel can arrange an air-conditioned car to take you to the Feast site, which may take about an hour. You can extend your trip to visit the turtle hatchery along the Galle road, stop and drink from King Coconuts at the many fruit stands, visit the gem workshop and see the displays of Sri Lankan gems at Aida Resort at Bentota. Contact the festival coordinator for more details.
Your Sri Lankan brethren, all of whom speak English very well, extend their warm welcome and look forward to keeping the Feast of Tabernacles 2016 with you!
