Luganville, Vanuatu

The Feast of Tabernacles 2016 in Vanuatu will once again be held at Luganville, on the beautiful island of Espiritu Santo.  This is the largest of the chain of 83 islands in the Pacific Ocean, 800 km west of Fiji. The three official languages are English, French and Bislama. Local currency used is vatu (1 vatu = 0.0093 US Dollar approx.). If you are looking for a relaxed pace with friendly locals then you need look no further!

Approximately 110 brethren will gather together to observe the Feast upstairs in the comfortable, air-conditioned Provident Fund Hall, in the main street of Luganville. Feast activities will include a Talent Show and a bus trip to the Nanda Blue Hole, with naturally occurring springs of deep crystal blue waters, surrounded by lush rainforest. Other activities are still in the planning stage.

In your free time, make sure you visit the local market displaying a wide variety of local fruits, vegetables and nuts. You may wish to participate in a dive on the famous wreck of the SS President Coolidge, go snorkelling, take various tours (including a WWII history tour), and visit renowned Champagne Beach. The temperature during the Feast should average between the mid to high 20s °C.

Luganville is a tourist centre but not really a tourist town, with an absence of high-rise international hotels. It is, in fact, a working town but the atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back.

Visitors are most welcome and encouraged to attend the Feast, but due to hall-size restrictions, the numbers we are able to accommodate will be limited.

Prices for accommodations vary from high-end resort prices to simple hotel-style accommodations at reasonable rates. The internet is a good source for finding the best package deal to suit your needs.  A maximum budget of around $120 U.S. a night will get you comfortable and convenient lodging.
