This year’s Australian Feast will be held at Nelson Bay, NSW. Nelson Bay is just one of the bays within the larger Port Stephens area. Historically, Nelson Bay was a fishing village where local settlers sailed marine produce to Sydney. However today, Nelson Bay has transformed into a major tourism centre, particularly for dolphin and whale watching, surfing, diving, fishing and other recreational activities. Feast time is often a particularly good time of the year to watch the migration of whales.
Nelson Bay provides the best of both worlds; as it is a tourism hub, it provides plenty to see and do and is easily accessible with the major Sydney International Airport only 207 km (129 miles) south, and the smaller Newcastle Airport 60km (37 miles) away. However, while it has the benefits of being close to major centres, Nelson Bay also has the small, friendly village feel—it maintains the laid-back charm of a small fishing village. In the 2011 census Nelson Bay had a population of 5,350 people, so chances are you will be able to see some of the brethren around town when you are out and about.
Services will be held each day at West's Nelson Bay Diggers Club, located at 88 Shoal Bay Road, Nelson Bay. This is a newly renovated club with outstanding facilities that will service our needs very well.
There is a full range of accommodation to suit every budget available in Nelson Bay or the Port Stephens region. To find these accommodations, there are websites that have many accommodation options, or you could consult directly with the local property managers.
With beaches set along a millennial coastline of islands and vibrant blue water, Nelson Bay is a very picturesque place to keep God’s Feast—and provides an abundance of activities. We will aim to provide Feast activities this year to cater to every range of demographics: Children, Singles, Family, and Seniors. All will find themselves occupied with activities specifically chosen to enhance God’s Feast and to experience the fellowship and the natural beauty of the area.
We are all excited about the Feast in Nelson Bay this year and hope to see you all there!
